Born in London and currently living and working in Manchester, Jan Fyfe is a photographic artist and associate lecturer in photography at The Manchester School of Art, MMU where she gained her MA in Photography in 2011.
Her practice and research explores ways of working with a specific landscape to investigate place, memory and time and creates claustrophobic, urgent and slightly unnerving images by pushing the pictorial, reducing information with depth of field, compressing spatial planes and lifting the image to the surface. She is currently a PhD research student investigating how multi-perspectival viewpoints affect temporal and spatial planes within the photographic landscape. She has exhibited in London, Manchester and Liverpool, was shortlisted for the Epson Art Photo Award in Dusseldorf in 2007 and exhibited at the Doverodde Book Arts Festival in Denmark in 2012. Her work is included in: Eyes Open: One – a collaboration between Manchester School of Art and Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, Castle to Covered Market: A History of Stockport’s Market Place by Peter Arrowsmith and the Source Photographic Review of MA and MFA Graduate Photography. |
